Paula V. Alvarez

Paula V. Alvarez is an architect, researcher and author based in Seville (Spain), founder of Vibok Works editorial practice. Her work brings together research, editing, design and writing from an experimental perspective. Her main research interest is the connection between the transdisciplinar rehabilitation of discourse as politics at the turn of the 21st century, and the transformation of contemporary architectural imaginaries and design techniques under the influence of new media technology.

Alvarez's work has been recognised with several awards and grants, including the COAS 2016 Award in the category of Urban Space Design and Landscape Architecture; the FAD Award for Thought and Criticism 2011 and the First Prize of the 7th Ibero-American Architecture and Urbanism Biennial to the best Architecture Journal in 2009. Alvarez's work has been presented and exhibited in international events like the Istambul Design Biennial and the Arte Paiz Biennial in Ciudad de Guatemala; international centers like the MAXXI Museum (Roma) and the Tongji University Campus in Shanghai, and national cultural centers like the Casa Encendida (Madrid), the Ars Santa Manica (Barcelona) and the Andalussian Contemporary Art Center (Seville).

Alvarez has lectured and taught in different workshops and conferences at the University of Seville, Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona, and Granada. Alvarez regularly contributes with essays in specialized publications on Art and Architecture (such as Volume, Think Space Panphlets, Abaco, Revista Arquitectos, or Pasajes de Arquitectura y Critica), and collaborates in research, cultural and educational projects developed by architectural institutions like the Arquia Foundation, the Mies van der Rohe Foundation or the FIUS Fundacion of the University of Seville.
